The Light of Other Days

a triptych of pixelated noise fields that I enjoy. Created through various digital processes and glitch art practices, they are moving fields of light. The title ‘ The Light of Other Days’ comes from a novel by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter written in 2000 in which a revolutionary “wormhole camera” allows anyone to see any place in the present or the past through a google earth type interface and the cultural changes and implications of this technology. While not directly tied to the text, the phrase stuck with me and encapsulates the sense of digitally filtered light that these works evoke for me. Video technology and the original videos that were altered for this series are in essence the light of other days, “wormholed” through to a new present moment via the digital pixel simulation that is digital video technology.
